Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership

Crime is tackled in every local area by Crime & Disorder Reduction Partnerships (CDRPs) - a combination of police, local authorities and other organisations and businesses who have banded together to develop and implement strategies for tackling crime and disorder on a local level.
There are 371 partnerships in England and Wales including the one in Reading.

Sakoma

In 2005 a network of Black and Minority Ethnic BME organisations called ‘Sakoma’ (meaning ‘Togetherness’ in Sierra Leone) was created. This was a result of the ChangeUp work was aimed at creating a strong independent voice in Reading. The initial project made an effort to engage the existing network of BME organisations, but also to identify those unknown to the existing network.

Reading Voluntary Action

Reading Voluntary Action is a registered charity which exists to promote a strong voluntary sector in the Reading area. It is a type of organisation which exists all over the country known as a Council for Voluntary Service. Reading Children's And Voluntary Youth Services

RCVYS - Reading Children’s & Voluntary Youth Services - was formed in January 2002 as an independent networking organisation to promote and support the work of all voluntary, community and faith organisations that work with children and young people across the wider Reading area.RCVYS is an integral part of Reading Children’s Trust, with elected representatives sitting on many of the committees.

Voluntary And Community Sector Services

In every urban and rural area in England, local infrastructure organisations (LIOs) work behind the scenes to ensure that local third sector groups and organisations get the support they need.
They provide their members with a range of services and development support, and are the voice of the local third sector. This is service is also know the Voluntary and Community Sector Services (VCS)

ChangeUp

ChangeUp is a programme of capacity building for the infrastructure of the voluntary and community sector, developed in partnership with the sector. The aim of ChangeUp investment is to catalyse the modernisation of infrastructure provision in order to improve its sustainability, quality and reach. Led by sector expertise, the Capacitybuilders agency manages ChangeUp.

Reading 2020

Reading 2020 is the Local Strategic Partnership for Reading Borough Council area. It is an overarching partnership that includes Reading Borough Council, Thames Valley Police, Berkshire West PCT, Fire Services, Business, the community and voluntary sector. The Council is the lead partner responsible for developing the partnership in collaboration with the other partners.

Compact

The Reading Compact was launched in May 2000, continuing a programme of work between Reading Borough Council (RBC) and the local voluntary and community sector to set out the key principles for future relationships between the two sectors.

The Forum

The Forum (formerly Reading Voluntary Sector Forum) elects more than 20 ‘Forum Voices’ to sit on 12 strategic partnerships (including the Local Strategic Partnership, the Compact, and the LAA Block partnerships) on behalf of its members. The Forum Voices Strategy Group was also formed in 2006, bringing together Forum Voices from 3 key partnerships (the Local Strategic Partnership, the Compact and Connect Reading), who discuss issues of concern to the wider VCS and then feed back to these 3 partnerships.

Reading Declaration

The Reading Declaration was launched in June 2000 as Reading's response to the recommendations of the Stephen Lawrence Inquiry which brought into focus the need for a holistic approach to the promotion of equality.

Common Assessment Framework

The Common Assessment Framework (CAF) is a key part of delivering frontline services that are integrated and focused around the needs of children and young people. The CAF is a standardised approach to conducting an assessment of a child's additional needs and deciding how those needs should be met. It can be used by practitioners across children's services in England.

Local Area Agreements

Local Area Agreements (LAAs) set out the priorities for a local area agreed between central government and a local area (the local authority and Local Strategic Partnership) and other key partners at the local level. LAAs simplify some central funding, help join up public services more effectively and allow greater flexibility for local solutions to local circumstances.

Neighbourhood Renewal Fund

The Neighbourhood Renewal Fund (NRF) is a special non ring-fenced grant which has been made available to Englands most deprived local authorities, to enable them in collaboration with their Local Strategic Partnership (LSP), to improve services, narrowing the gap between deprived areas and the rest of the country.

Children Action Team

Children's Action Teams (CATS) are set up in Reading to improve both the quality and speed of our response in meeting the additional needs of children and young people. We have set up four multi-agency teams providing earlier intervention and preventative services to children, young people and parents in the area they live or go to school. A map of our CAT areas is available to download below.

Social Inclusion Advisory Group

The Social Inclusion Advisory Group is a multi-sector body charged with the responsibility of promoting, influencing and monitoring the implementation of social inclusion policies within Reading 2020 partnership framework. The Social Inclusion Advisory Group will have the responsibility of also promoting the effective management of diversity working with other to achieve community cohesion and a safer Reading. The group will do this by working with delivery groups, partnership and LAA blocks to ensure that the most vulnerable people and areas have equal access and good quality services locally.

Local Strategic Partnership

Local Strategic Partnerships (LSPs) are non-statutory, multi-agency partnerships, which matches local authority boundaries. LSPs bring together at a local level the different parts of the public, private, community and voluntary sectors; allowing different initiatives and services to support one another so that they can work together more effectively. Reading Infrastructure Consortium

The Reading Infrastructure Consortium now known as ChangeUp Reading comprises local organisations, both statutory and
VCS, who work to support frontline organisations. The consortium is chaired by the Director
of Reading Voluntary Action and includes representatives of The Forum (formerly known as Reading Voluntary Sector
Forum).
This consortium grew out of the government plans to improve the support (infrastructure) for the Voluntary and
Community Sector (VCS) under a project called ChangeUp.

Gypsy, Roma and Travellers

Gypsies, Roma and Travellers are the largest Ethnic Minority community in the European Union with over 12 million people. In the UK, they are recognised ethnic minority communities and number 300,000. They are also the most marginalised and continue to suffer extreme levels of prejudice and discrimination.
